FE COURSES for autumn 09 Two new evening classes will be starting at the end of September at Fishguard Community Learning Centre. ‘Renewable energy sources and energy efficiency’ is a 10 week course, running on Thursday evenings, which will help people find ways to reduce their energy use, so saving money and cutting CO2 emissions. Expert speakers will provide information on a range of technologies including solar systems, wood stoves, wind turbines, heat pumps and hydro electric systems and enable participants to decide which renewable energy technologies might be the most suitable for them. ‘Gardening and smallholding skills for a greener future’ is a 15 week course to be held on Wednesday evenings and is for anyone wanting to learn or develop gardening and smallholding skills to meet the challenge of a changing climate and the need to be more sustainable. Some of the topics which will be covered are soil improvement and garden design; gardens for wildlife; growing vegetables and extending the season; keeping livestock; bumblebees and honeybees; permaculture; storing and preserving .
